The Greek myth are fascinating. The floral myths are no exception. Each floral myth is dedicated to an origin story of sorts to certain flowers: anemone, narcissus, and hyacinth (along with many others), with dark undercurrents. Human sacrifice, jealous love triangles, revenge schemes… all these stories end in blood as the birthing element for these flowers. I love the contrast of something delicate and beautiful coming from something dark and grotesque.
This triptych helped push my skills with glazing, work with themes, and draw handsome dudes. Or as my husband would say, “Pretty boy dolls.” I put some process images below to enjoy. They are the sketching stages and the ink wash stage prior to adding glazing.
